The mesh opening size and wire diameter are the main parameters of stainless steel wire mesh. The ratios of opening size/wire diameter decide the opening rate of the mesh.
Following is the formula to show the relationship between the opening size/wire diameter ratios (denoted by f) and the opening rate (denoted by Ao):
f=opening size/wire diameter
As we can see from the formula, that if two kinds of stainless steel wire mesh have the same opening size/wire diameter ratio, the opening rate will also be the same.
And if a kind of mesh has a larger ratio of opening size/wire diameter, the opening rate Ao will also be larger, and the filtration efficiency will be higher.
Theoretically, for the stainless steel square wire mesh, the ratios of opening size/wire diameter should not under 1, if the ratio is under 1, the mesh will be difficult to woven, and the min limit is 0.7.
Usually, during weaving the square hole mesh, if the ratios of opening size/wire diameter are from 1 to 1.5, wire mesh is normally produced by twilled woven. But if the ratio is over 1.35, the mesh can also be plain-woven. When the ratio is over 1.5, it better to be plain-woven, because the twilled woven may cause the mesh to deformed because the weft wire and warp wire can not be woven tightly. And when the ratio is less than 1.35, the twilled woven will be better, because if using a plain weave, the weft wire will be easy to break during production, and the woven process will be very difficult.
